Inkwell Heart

IMPETUS

Many thousands of years ago, when the first story was told, the Goddess of Stories was born.

Over the millennia she has grown and changed as our ideas of what stories are made of has changed. She is a world of herself, a great library containing every story ever written, and many that never were.

In those first days she had no physical form. She was the melodic sound of stories spoken aloud and flowing between people on the wind. She existed in physical space as nothing more than the pictures crudely drawn on cave walls and performances held around campfires. She was Story, she was Art.

In the later era she was a small building of bricks and stone, lit by torches and filled with scrolls and tablets. Her story was written in cuneiform along her walls. She was Story, and her brother was Art, and they were together.

When she changed again she was an elaborate marble hall, lit by lanterns, stories were stored on her shelves in scrolls and tablets and books, but the main attraction was the great stage, and she had great masked puppets who performed for her in masks and robes and who tended to her shelves. Her story was written on a great script that changed everytime it was performed. She was story, and her brother was Art, and they were always close by.

Now she is a great library of wood, lit with electricity and staffed by hordes of suited mannequins. Endless stacks of books fill her ever-changing halls, but no matter how much she shifts her sprawling body about, the stories are always the same, inflexible. Each reading identical, each viewing the same. Even the room for interpretation seems to grow tighter. The stages she once cherished are slowly replaced with colossal screens, and so she hides them away, but they're still there. Her story is written on a typewriter, nobody performs it anymore. She fears what it will become next when the screens reach it. She is Story, and her brother is Art, and she feels that she sees him so scarcely now.

The Goddess of Stories has no desire to change. If humanity is the one who has wrought this change upon her, then she will do whatever is necessary to ensure they revert back to the way things were before.

The Inwell Heart shall take the form of a multimedia franchise with a focus on how each installment utilizes and distorts the format of the medium through which it is communicated.
